University of Iceland
The MA “Career Counselling and Guidance” in School and Career Guidance provides education and training to school and career counsellors in Iceland. It is the only programme of its type in the country. Currently there are about 120 students enrolled in the programme. The counsellor training is provided both on site and at distance. The programme was founded in 1990 as a one year post graduate diploma course. In 2004 a second year was added to a MA degree. Now it is a full time 2 year programme of 120 ECTS. Students holding a Diploma in Career Councelling and Guidance have 60 ECTS credits accepted as part of the MA studies. The teachers at the MA programme are now in the process of reorganizing the curricula of a comprehensive 2 year MA programme. It is therefore of great interest to us to participate in an Erasmus network of innovation in career guidance studies. We have already gathered information on guidance training programmes, and have gathered data via discussion groups on the experience of our former students. We plan to launch a reviewed MA programme in 2010. We are all the more interested in linking up with colleagues in Europe since we will have a third faculty member joining our programme this coming August.
