University Heidelberg

The topic of career guidance & counselling is one of the central branches of research and teaching within the research group “Further Education and Counselling” at the Institute of Educational Science. The Institute itself is located within the Faculty of Behavioural and Cultural Studies at the Heidelberg University. Head of the “Further Education and Counselling” programme is Prof. Dr. Christiane Schiersmann.
Ongoing practical and research oriented projects of the research group are:

  • Education and change processes in the society
  • Counselling in the field of education, vocation and employment
  • Counselling and human resource development in SME
  • Learning and counselling in combination with new media
  • Further education and age-based career development within the life-course
  • Quality standards and quality management for counselling services
  • Organisation and quality development in educational organisations

Since 2006 the Heidelberg University has been running the multi-disciplinary Master study programme “Career Counselling and Organization Development” which is coordinated by our institute.

Our vision for Lifelong Guidance and – on a broader view – on Lifelong Learning, is to develop evidence-based practice and policy making. This goal cannot be reached through a single institution nor by a single country. Networking and cooperation are needed to make this vision reality – which is why we have initiated the Erasmus NICE Network.

Role within the Network:

The Institute of Educational Science is the Coordinating Partner of the NICE Network. As such, the responsible project team works in strong cooperation with the other members of the NICE Network’s Steering Group in order to facilitate the development of a sustainable network and reach important goals.

Staff involved in the NICE Network:
